After completing his medical education at the LMU Munich and Ulm University with a state examination and a doctorate in 1988, Prof. Gschwend continued his clinical and scientific fellowship at Ulm University Hospital with Prof.
Richard Houtmann and at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York (1995/ 1996). In 1998 he defended his habilitation on the topic of apoptosis induction in prostate cancer.
Professor Gschwend has been working at the clinic of the Technical University of Munich since 2006. In 2006, he was appointed to the Department of Urology at TUM.
Professor Gschwend has also been a member of the Working Group on Urological Oncology of the German Cancer Society (DKG) for many years, a member of the Supervisory Board of the University Hospital Rechts der Isar and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
