Biography

Professor Kastrati graduated from university with a PhD (1979) and specialized and PhD (1988) in Medicine in Tirana, Albania. Then he received an Alexander von Humboldt scholarship and became a visiting researcher at the 3rd Medical Clinic of the University of Heidelberg and at the 1st Medical Clinic of the Technical University of Munich. Prior to his appointment to the Department of Internal Medicine at the Technical University of Munich (2000), he worked as a visiting researcher at the German Heart Center Munich (DHM). Prof. Kastrati currently holds the position of Chief Medical Officer and Associate Director of the Cardiovascular Clinic at DHM. He runs the Cardiovascular Catheter Procedures Laboratory and is the Director of the ISARESEARCH Research Center.

Professor Kastrati focuses his research on optimizing treatment strategies for patients with acute coronary syndromes, as well as on the development of new drug-eluting stents with an improved safety and efficacy profile. Another area of his research is the optimization of adjuvant periprocedural antithrombotic therapy, as well as the assessment of prognosis based on genetic and biochemical markers.
