Clinical focus

Diagnosis and therapy of black (melanoma) and light (basalioma and spinalioma) skin cancer

Dermatology. Various forms of skin cancer: classic excision, that is, removal of the tumor; excision in microscopically controlled surgery. Removal of the so-called sentinel lymph node and plastic surgery of postoperative wounds with skin grafts.

Other operations: nail surgery, electrochemotherapy, scar correction, rhinophyma surgery, operations in the anus and genital area (for example, genital warts). Treatment of skin diseases with laser therapy (special forms of light skin cancer, age spots and vascular changes). The clinic has a CO₂ laser, a neodymium YAG laser and a pulsed lamp with IPL technology.

Allergology. Complete allergy diagnostics and therapy.

Biography
  • Training at the Department of Dermatology of the University of Munich.
  • In 1990, he was appointed chief physician of the dermatological university clinic in Munich.
  • 1992-2002 – Professor and Chief Physician of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Regensburg.
  • Since 2002, head physician of the department of dermatology, allergology and environmental medicine at the Schwabing Clinic in Munich.

In 1989, he and his colleagues developed the dermatoscope, which has since spread throughout the world and has been used in more than 1,500 publications to develop diagnostic criteria. Together with the group of Prof. doctor h.k. Gregor Morfill, director of the Institute of Extraterrestrial Physics. Max Planck, Garching near Munich, also developed a computerized digital evaluation program for the analysis of pigmented moles, which was awarded the Bavarian Innovation Prize in 1998 (European Patent PCT/EP1998/008020).
