Peter Habermeier, Prof. Dr. med.

Clinical focus

Since 1982, Dr. Habermeier has specialized in scientific and clinical work in the field of the shoulder joint, and in 1984 he opened the first German outpatient clinic for shoulder surgery in the surgical department of the University Hospital LMU Munich.

In 1986, he expanded his range of surgeries to include shoulder arthroscopy and shoulder replacement.

In 1990, his first textbook on shoulder surgery was published.

Since founding the German Shoulder Center in 2012, Professor Habermeyer has extensive surgical experience, having performed more than 20,000 shoulder surgeries, including more than 3,000 shoulder prostheses.

As former President of the European Society for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (SECEC), he has been regularly mentioned as one of the most renowned shoulder surgeons in Germany since the FOCUS list of doctors. Range of services: implantation and replacement of shoulder prostheses, arthroscopic correction of the rotator cuff, revisions after unsuccessful rupture of the rotator cuff, treatment of fractures of the humeral head and long-term consequences, arthroscopic and open stabilization of the shoulder after dislocation, early osteoarthritis of the shoulder, cartilage regeneration, calcified shoulder ( calcific tendinitis of the shoulder), frozen shoulder syndrome (adhesive capsulitis).

Biography
  • Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich with honors, He worked since 1978 at the surgical clinic Rechts der Isar, Technical University of Munich, then at the surgical clinic, Ludwig Maximilian University.
  • In 1987 – Doctor of Medicine degree in surgery.
  • 1992 – Stuttgart Sports Clinic, head physician.
  • 1996 – appointment as professor of dr. med. LMU Munich.
  • Since 2008, visiting professor at Harvard University in Boston.
  • 2012 – founding of the German shoulder joint center ATOS Clinic Munich.
  • 2020 – Founding of the shoulder center of Professor Habermeyer in Munich.
