Prof. Schepp studied from 1975 to 1981 at the Friedrich Wilhelm University in Bonn.
1981–1982 – worked as a researcher at the German Research Foundation at the Institute of Pharmacology of the University of Tübingen.
From 1983 to 1984 he completed advanced training as a therapist at the medical clinic of the University of Bonn, then at the clinic of the Technical University of Munich (Rechts der Isar). There he defended his doctorate in 1988.
After a scientific internship in 1989 at the University of California, Los Angeles, Schepp returned to the clinic of the Technical University of Munich. Having gained recognition as a gastroenterologist, in 1990 he was appointed chief physician of the clinic of the Technical University of Munich.
In 1993, he was appointed professor in the department of the Faculty of Medicine, and in 1997 he became professor of gastroenterology.
In 1997, he headed the clinic for gastroenterology, hepatology and gastroenterological oncology at the Bogenhausen Clinic (academic teaching hospital of the Technical University of Munich).
From 2002 to 2006, Shepp was the clinic’s medical director.
From 2007 to 2021, he headed the certified colon cancer center and then the certified visceral oncology center of the German Cancer Society at the Munich Bogenhausen Clinic.
Since July 1, 2021, Schepp has been working as a senior consultant at the Clinic for Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Gastroenterological Oncology at the Munich Clinic Bogenhausen, which he previously headed.
Since 2022, he has been a technical expert for the vice-oncology centers of the German Cancer Society.
Shepp conducts research on acid-related upper gastrointestinal diseases, Helicobacter pylori gastritis, and gastrointestinal malignancies.
