Clinical focus

In diabetology, the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, many special forms, such as gestational diabetes, diabetes after pancreatic surgery or after pancreatitis.

In endocrinology, diseases associated with the following organs: thyroid gland, parathyroid glands (calcium and phosphate metabolism), pituitary gland (for example, pituitary tumors), pancreas, adrenal glands and gonads (production of female and male sex hormones).

Prof. Ritzel focuses on endocrinology, diabetology, hypertension and metabolic medicine. He is interested in lifestyle factors that lead to diabetes (weight, diet, blood pressure, lipid metabolism, exercise).

Biography

Prof. Ritzel completed professional internships at the universities of Bochum and Heidelberg.

Since 2006, Robert Ritzel has worked as senior physician and deputy chief physician for internal medicine at the University of Heidelberg and, in addition to clinical endocrinology and diabetology, has been actively involved in interdisciplinary patient care. Since 2006, he has been head of the interdisciplinary outpatient clinic for internal medicine at the head hospital of Heidelberg University. Actively worked on scientific projects in centers in Germany and the USA.

In 2010, he became the chief physician of the department of endocrinology and diabetology at the University Hospital Schwabing in Munich.
