Biography

Prof. Koenig studied medicine at the LMU in Munich from 1969 to 1975.

In 1976 he passed the American State Examination (ECFMG), also in Munich.

From 1976 to 1977 he worked as a paramedic at the Munich-Schwabing Municipal Hospital, then worked as an assistant at the Hohenried Cardiovascular Clinic until 1980 before receiving his doctorate from the University of Heidelberg in 1980.

Until 1983, he worked as a scientific assistant at various institutes, and from 1983 to 1986 he was the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) MONICA heart attack registry at the central clinic in Augsburg. In 1986, Koenig moved to the Ulm University Medical Clinic. There he became an internal medicine physician in 1989, and since 1992 he has an additional qualification as a cardiologist.

In 1998, he was appointed Associate Professor, and in 2005 he received an additional qualification in internal intensive care.

From 1995 to 2000, Koenig was Senior Physician, Head of the Medical Clinic and Head of the Emergency Department, from 2003 to 2004 Head of the Intensive Care Unit, and from 2004 to 2005 Head of the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory.

Until the end of March 2015, König was Senior Physician in the Department of Internal Medicine II – Cardiology at the Medical University Hospital Ulm, where he headed the Biomarker Laboratory and the Clinical Research Centre.

On April 1, 2015, he moved to the German Heart Center of the Technical University of Munich, where he is mainly involved in scientific activities. (article from Wikipedia)
