Medical specialization includes the field of diagnostic imaging of the abdominal cavity and chest, including functional and tissue-specific imaging (liver, pancreas, small and large intestine), the spectrum of diagnostic and interventional vascular medicine and the field of interventional oncology.
He is a member of several German and international professional associations such as the German Society for Interventional Radiology (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Interventionelle Radiologie – DeGIR), the European Society of Radiology (ESR) and Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE). He is also an expert for several scientific publications; inter alia Hepatology, Interventional Oncology, Radiology and European Radiology.
Before in 2007 prof. Dr. Thomas Helmberger took up the position of Chief Physician at the Institute of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the Bogenhausen Hospital, Munich, where he headed the Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine and the Medical Service Center 5 (radiology, nuclear medicine, neuroradiology and radiotherapy) for two and a half years ) at the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Lübeck. Prof. Dr. Thomas Helmberger is co-editor of the journals “Der Radiologe” and “CardioVascular and Interventional Radiology” (CVIR) and participates as a reviewer in other publications such as “RöFo” or “European Journal of Radiology”.
He is also active in numerous professional societies, including being a founding member of the German Society of Interventional Radiology (DeGIR) and the International Liver Cancer Association (ILCA).
