After studying medicine and receiving his doctorate (08 March 1982) at the University of Sarajevo, he continued his training as a specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery in Sarajevo, Ljubljana (Slovenia), the USA and England.

Since 1992, head physician at the University Clinic for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Innsbruck.

1997 – Professor at the University of Innsbruck.

2003 – Chief Physician of the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, Hand and Burn Surgery at the University Hospital Bogenhausen, Munich. Since November 2004, professor at the Technical University of Munich.

Since 2019, President of the European Association of Plastic Surgeons (EURAPS)
